In a shocking turn of events, Michigan urologist Zvi Levran has been ordered to stand trial for allegations of sexual assault. The disturbing testimony presented in court shed light on the heinous acts Levran is accused of committing. Judge James Brady of the 47th District Court in Farmington Hills made the decision to bind the case over to the 6th Circuit Court in Pontiac.
The 66-year-old urologist is facing a staggering 22 counts of criminal sexual conduct in varying degrees. Eleven men came forward during a court hearing in April, recounting the alleged abuse they endured during medical appointments at Levran’s home in Farmington Hills. Prosecutors argue that Levran used his positions as a hockey team physician and yoga instructor to exploit these victims. Many of the accusers recalled instances where Levran watched them urinate, inquired about their sexual activity, and engaged in inappropriate touching.
They trusted the defendant and the defendant used that trust to violate them, stated assistant prosecutor Rob VanWert. The victims were vulnerable, placing their faith in a medical professional who manipulated their trust for his own perverse desires.
Levran had volunteered as a team doctor for youth hockey programs in Michigan and Minnesota for more than two decades. The victims who came forward attended Livonia, Novi, and Farmington high schools. The defense attorney, Jonathan Jones, argued that the witness testimonies did not meet the necessary standard to proceed to trial. Jones insisted that Levran’s actions were either not sexually motivated or, in most cases, had a medical or athletic purpose.
I’ve said before that I’m representing an eccentric gentleman, Jones stated. He may seem odd, but odd is not a crime. Levran’s attorney attempted to downplay the seriousness of the allegations, emphasizing a potential lack of criminal intent.
The accused urologist is currently being held at the Oakland County Jail, with a bond set at a staggering $3 million. The case will be heard by Judge Yasmine Poles of the Sixth Circuit Court.
