Michigan State Football Nearing Commitment from Three-Star QB Henry Hasselbeck
Michigan State football has a history of successful quarterback recruiting in recent years. Katin Houser, a four-star quarterback, was recruited and flipped from Boise State in the 2022 class, while in 2023, four-star Sam Leavitt was flipped from Washington State. Now in the 2024 class, the coaching staff is looking to recruit their next quarterback.
They missed out on some potential candidates but are now targeting three-star Henry Hasselbeck, son of former NFL quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. He previously seemed a likely candidate for Boston College, following in his father’s footsteps, but Michigan State offered him a late recruitment and has reportedly become a favorite for his commitment.
The Spartans received three crystal balls, including one from Steve Wiltfong, indicating a high probability of landing Hasselbeck, according to reports. Though, Michigan State could still potentially sway Maealiuaki Smith, a West Coast three-star athlete. Smith is currently leaning towards Oklahoma State or BYU.
Ranked as the 52nd quarterback in the nation, Hasselbeck has garnered attention from other institutions, with Pitt and Boston College being potential contenders. Michigan State is his top pick.
Coach Jay Johnson and Mel Tucker have developed a knack for acquiring talented quarterbacks, and Hasselbeck could be the next in their successful line. With the potential of him committing to Michigan State, the future of their quarterback position seems bright.
