Three defensive players from the University of Michigan have found their names on the Bronko Nagurski Award watch list, adding to the growing recognition for the team. Linebacker Junior Colson, safety Rod Moore, and defensive tackle Kris Jenkins were among the 94 players selected for the prestigious watch list, which honors the nation’s top defensive player.

Colson, who earned second-team All-Big Ten honors from coaches and third-team All-Big Ten recognition from the media in 2022, led his team with an impressive 101 tackles last season. His contributions include 42 solo tackles, six tackles for loss, and two sacks. With his exceptional performance, Colson is expected to be one of the standout linebackers in the Big Ten conference this coming fall.

Moore, an All-Big Ten honorable mention last year, made his mark with four interceptions and 71 tackles, including 48 solo tackles. He enters the new season as a Pro Football Focus Preseason All-Big Ten first-teamer and brings a wealth of experience to Michigan’s defensive backfield alongside teammate Mike Sainristil.

Jenkins’ inclusion on the Nagurski Award watch list comes as no surprise, given that he was also named to the Outland Trophy watch list for best interior lineman. As an honorable mention All-Big Ten player in his first full year as a starter, Jenkins recorded 54 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has expressed high praise for Jenkins, referring to him as the potentially our best player on the defense. With lofty expectations, Jenkins has the potential to make a significant impact.

Michigan’s football program continues to receive recognition and attention, with these three defensive players showcasing their skills and earning spots on prestigious award watch lists. As the season approaches, fans eagerly anticipate watching these players perform on the field and contribute to the team’s success.
