Former England captain Michael Vaughan expressed his dissatisfaction with current skipper Ben Stokes’ decision to declare on the first day of the first Ashes Test against Australia. Stokes decided to test his bowlers with England at 393-8 and Joe Root unbeaten on 118. However, Australia’s David Warner and Usman Khawaja managed to take the team to 14/0 at stumps. Vaughan said that he would have wanted more runs and wouldn’t declare since no one knows what could happen. Team-mate Jonny Bairstow supported Stokes’ decision, pointing out that it was no surprise to them. Bairstow played an important part, scoring 78 runs in his first Test innings since returning from an accident.
