Alabama football coach Nick Saban has made a rare move and offered a scholarship to an eighth-grade quarterback. Trent Seaborn, who just completed his eighth-grade year at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama, received the offer after leading his team to its fourth consecutive AHSAA 7A championship. The rising ninth-grader has been receiving a lot of attention and offers from multiple Division I colleges, including Northern Colorado, Marshall, Troy, and Maryland.
Seaborn, who is from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, started the 2022 season as a backup to Thompson’s starting quarterback. He only started playing consistently after the starter Zach Sims suffered an injury. Despite only being 14 years old at the time, Seaborn played impressively in the four ensuing games, completing 69 of 93 passes for 663 yards and nine touchdowns to just three interceptions.
The young quarterback first caught Saban’s attention after leading his team to victory in the AHSAA 7A championship as an eighth-grader. Seaborn completed 12 of 15 passes for 207 yards and a title game record five touchdowns in the game against Auburn. Alabama fans hope that Seaborn will be the Crimson Tide’s potential quarterback of the future.
The quarterback has not yet been given a star rating on 247Sports because he is just a rising high school freshman. However, it seems that Seaborn is making a name for himself even in his early years of high school football. His coach Mark Freeman speaks highly of Seaborn, praising his composure on the field, calling him a solid, solid kid with a mind of about like an 18-year-old.
Seaborn’s talent has not gone unnoticed, and he is bound to garner even more attention as he enters high school. For now, it remains to be seen which college Seaborn will eventually choose. However, given his early success and the recognition he is receiving from college coaches, it appears that he has a bright future ahead of him.
