Following the ethnic violence in Manipur, the National Medical Commission has permitted first-year MBBS classed to be conducted both at Churachandpur Medical College and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal, according to officials. The offline classes are set to start on June 19 and will continue until the state returns to normalcy. The first batch of students attending the newly set up medical college, which was inaugurated earlier this year by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, consists of 100 students, with around 60 hailing from valley regions of Manipur. Students have been given the option to attend the college where they are most comfortable. With hundreds of students of all the northeastern states studying in central government-run institutions, various state governments have made special arrangements to transport them back to their home states amid the ongoing violence.
