The Mokokchung District Disabled Forum (MDDF) recently organized an awareness program on persons with disabilities (PwDs) at Senden Salang in Kobulong, Mokokchung, on June 15. The program was supported by the Office of the State Commissioner for People with Disabilities. The event was attended by church leaders, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, village council members, school teachers, PwDs, and their parents. The program aimed to raise awareness about the rights of PwDs and their welfare.
During the program, speakers such as Seyievilie Pfukri, EAC of Kobulong, and Imliyanger, CDPO of Kobulong, delivered short speeches. They encouraged stakeholders and members present to be more sincere towards issues related to PwDs and protect and promote their welfare and rights. Resource persons Kezhaleto Zecho and Ngaugongbe also spoke about the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 and stressed on the health and educational entitlements and rights of PwDs.
The MDDF President, Imkongnungchet Kichu, spoke about the status of PwDs and the functions of Disabled People’s Organisation (DPO’s). He encouraged village councils, churches, and people in the community to extend support and help towards the welfare of PwDs. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Panger, a member of MDDF.
The event aimed to inform and educate attendees on issues related to PwDs and to raise awareness about their rights and entitlements. The program intended to empower stakeholders and members present to protect and promote the welfare of PwDs and encourage them to extend their support to the community’s differently-abled members.
The event’s impact was significant, with a total of 98 people, including 18 PwDs attending the program. The MDDF aims to continue organizing awareness programs and extend support to PwDs and their families through various initiatives.
