The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced its plan to provide jetting and super sucker machines to 12 zones to tackle the waterlogging issue during the monsoon season. Mayor Shelly Oberoi confirmed the provision during a recent review meeting at the Civic Centre with officials and councillors. The Mayor also acknowledged that some machines have been non-functional for years, while some zones lacked these necessary machines.
The Mayor’s decision stemmed from the review regarding civic matters and developmental work in the Narela area. To address the issue of waterlogging during monsoon season, the Mayor emphasized that each zone of the municipal corporation would be provided with a jetting and super sucker machine. Additionally, officials would deploy existing jetting machines in each zone as per their daily requirement. It came to her knowledge that ward councillors had provided lists of waterlogging-prone areas in their wards, thus special attention must be given to these areas to guarantee citizens’ convenience.
Furthermore, an individual tree-pruning machine was also given to each zone, which would effectively address tree-related issues. During the meeting, the councillors also raised their concerns regarding maintaining municipal parks. In response, Oberoi directed officials to conduct a weekly cleanliness drive in the Holambi Kalan and Shahbad Dairy wards to ensure the importance of maintaining cleanliness. The Mayor also urged officials to focus on promptly addressing local issues such as unauthorised constructions, illegal dairies, and sanitation-related problems.
