Mayo Embraces High-Speed Broadband Revolution, Connecting Thousands to 500 Mbps Speeds
Mayo, Ireland – Mayo County is experiencing a high-speed broadband revolution as more homes and businesses are being connected to lightning-fast internet speeds. The National Broadband Plan rollout has reached Newport, with over 1,700 premises in the area now ready to connect to high-speed fiber, offering minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second. The impact of this progress is remarkable, with customers experiencing the transformational power of minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second. Families can now work, study, and access online entertainment simultaneously without any lag or interruptions. Additionally, business owners are benefiting from these high speeds, enabling them to expand their operations seamlessly.

Local business owner, Padraic Gannon, who owns Croagh Patrick Seafood and Tours in Newport, expressed his delight at being connected to the NBI network through broadband provider Westnet. He emphasized the importance of having a fast and reliable broadband connection for his new Oyster Farm Visitor Centre, which is set to open in July. As a wholesale network operator, National Broadband Ireland does not directly sell fiber broadband to end-users. Instead, it enables services from various broadband providers or Retail Service Providers (RSPs), ensuring access for all. Currently, 62 RSPs have partnered with NBI to sell services on their network, with 51 of them certified and ready to provide connections.
Sarah Mulroe, Marketing Manager at Westnet, expressed their pleasure in being one of NBI’s broadband provider partners.
