Mayim Bialik is out as host of ‘Jeopardy!’ with Ken Jennings to stay in his role as permanent host

Jeopardy! fans were shocked by the recent announcement that Mayim Bialik will no longer be hosting the popular quiz show. The news came directly from Bialik herself, who shared the update on her Instagram account. The decision means that Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings will continue on as the permanent host.

Bialik had only recently been named the show’s permanent co-host last summer, alongside Jennings. In her Instagram post, she revealed that studio Sony informed her that she would no longer be hosting the syndicated version of the show, although she did not provide a reason for her departure.

While bidding farewell, Bialik expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and the support she received during her time on Jeopardy!. She wrote, I am incredibly honored to have been nominated for a primetime Emmy for hosting this year and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the Jeopardy! family. For all of you who have supported me through this incredible journey and to the fans, contestants, writers, staff, and crew of America’s Favorite Quiz Show, thank you.

Shortly after the news broke, Sony confirmed that Ken Jennings would be remaining as the sole host for the syndicated version of Jeopardy!. In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, a spokesperson for the studio explained the decision, stating, We made the decision to have one host for the syndicated show next season to maintain continuity for our viewers, and Ken Jennings will be the sole host for syndicated Jeopardy!. We are truly grateful for all of Mayim’s contributions to Jeopardy!, and we hope to continue to work with her on primetime specials.

Bialik first stepped into her hosting role on Jeopardy! following the tragic death of longtime host Alex Trebek in 2020. In the aftermath of Trebek’s passing, the show had a rotating cast of guest hosts, including Aaron Rodgers and LeVar Burton. In 2021, it was announced that Bialik and executive producer Mike Richards would share hosting duties. However, just one week into filming, Richards stepped down due to offensive remarks he made on a podcast. Jennings, who is a Jeopardy! legend with over $4 million in winnings, then took over as host.

Fans of the show will undoubtedly miss Bialik’s presence, but they can take solace in knowing that the iconic Jeopardy! format will continue with Ken Jennings at the helm. The show’s producers are grateful for Bialik’s contributions and are hopeful for future collaborations with her on primetime specials. As Jeopardy! moves forward, viewers can look forward to the beloved quiz show remaining a staple of television entertainment for years to come.
