Researchers have developed a new mathematical tool that simplifies the visualization of brain activity patterns during daily experiences. This innovative technique utilizes state-space analysis, which allows for the disentanglement of complex neuronal activity into separate components, resulting in more straightforward visualizations.

Unlike previous methods that required advanced mathematical skills and complex programming, this new approach only relies on commonly used statistical software. By making the analysis process more accessible, this breakthrough has the potential to uncover hidden mechanisms of information processing in the brain, leading to further discoveries.

This visualization allows researchers to observe changes in neuronal activity occurring in short time periods, reflecting a series of cognitive behaviors such as remembering the location of an office or recalling a memory after leaving home.

To validate the validity of this technology, the researchers compared it with conventional methods using neural data obtained from monkeys by several research teams. With the newly developed analysis technique, anyone can easily analyze various types of neural activity data. This technology is expected to uncover novel mechanisms of information processing within the brain, opening doors to new discoveries.
