The recent trend of mass yoga performances in Bhopal has led to a significant increase in the sales of yoga-related items. According to traders in the region, yoga mats, T-shirts, and scarves worth more than Rs 10 lakh were sold in the city ahead of International Day of Yoga this year. The growing popularity of yoga, coupled with the government’s push for yoga practices, has contributed to this rise in demand.
Traders from the Madhya Pradesh Sant Ravidas Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation reported selling yoga carpets and stoles worth over Rs 60,000 in the past week alone. Meanwhile, Mrignayani stores across several cities, including Delhi, Noida, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Jabalpur, Khajuraho, Gwalior, Raipur, and Bhopal, offered yoga mats made of cotton with Bagh designs.
Shivendra Singh, In-Charge of Mrignayani Emporium on Hamidia Road, revealed that his store sold silk scarves worth Rs 40,000 and 10,000 mats made of jute. We got demand for silk scarves, known as angavastra, in bulk from a government office in Jabalpur to gift to guests, he said.

One intriguing trend that has emerged is people opting for cotton bedsheets as a substitute for yoga mats. The Manager of Mrignaynee Emporium, located at Gauhar Mahal, confirmed that people bought cotton bedsheets measuring 4×6 feet for yoga exercises. We received requests for cotton bedsheets from a minister on Yoga Day, he said.
Sports stores that offer yoga mats and T-shirts also witnessed a rise in demand.
