West Ham’s Argentinian midfielder, Manuel Lanzini, is set to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June. Lanzini, who arrived from Al Jazira back in 2015, made 226 appearances for the Hammers, scoring 32 goals.
The 30-year-old’s highlight at the club came in 2020 when he scored a long-range equalizer against Tottenham as West Ham fought back from being 3-0 down to snatch a 3-3 draw. His impressive performances have seen him linked with a move back to Argentina, with former club River Plate a possible destination.
West Ham manager, David Moyes, paid tribute to Lanzini, stating that Manu is a fantastic professional, a really good lad, and whichever club he joins will have an excellent player on their hands. We are sorry to see him go, but he deserves the opportunity to play more regularly elsewhere, and we wish him well in his next adventure.
Lanzini’s departure will leave a hole in West Ham’s midfield, with Moyes likely to look to the transfer market to replace him. However, it remains to be seen who the Scottish manager will bring in to fill the void left by the departing Lanzini.
As the end of June approaches, West Ham fans will say farewell to a talented midfielder who has been an important part of their team for the last eight years. Whilst they will undoubtedly wish him well in his future endeavours, they will also be wondering who will step up to replace him at the London Stadium.
