The Manipur High Court has ordered the state government to provide limited internet services in selected areas, according to sources. The court gave its ruling in response to a Public Interest Litigation from a number of individuals and will reconvene on 23 June. The government has suspended internet access nine times in the area since 3 May to prevent the spread of misinformation and images that might increase hostility and unrest. The court specified that service providers including Vodafone, Idea, Jio, BSNL and Airtel should confirm whether they can supply limited internet access via specified locations without endangering law and order in the state. The court also suggested that internet access would be beneficial during the current admissions process in the state.
