Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has suggested that external forces or elements may be behind the recent ethnic violence in the state. In an exclusive interview with ANI, Singh expressed concerns about the porous and unguarded borders between Manipur, Myanmar, and China, stating that it is challenging for security forces to cover such a vast area. He acknowledged that the violence seems pre-planned, although the exact reasons behind it remain unclear.

Both the central and state government are working tirelessly to restore peace in Manipur. Singh reached out to the Kuki community, referring to them as brothers and sisters, and urged forgiveness and reconciliation. The government has focused on screening individuals entering Manipur from outside amidst the ongoing turmoil in Myanmar, with plans to send them back once the situation improves. Singh emphasized that the priority is to restore peace and normalcy in the state.

The Manipur Chief Minister made a heartfelt appeal to the people, emphasizing the need for unity among the state’s 34 tribes. He expressed his commitment to preventing Manipur from splintering along ethnic lines and ensuring there is no demographic imbalance. Singh reiterated that he is prepared to make sacrifices to maintain unity and harmony within the state.

Ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3, sparked by clashes during a rally organized by the All Tribal Students Union (ATSU) against the demand to include Meiteis in the list of Scheduled Tribes. The CM’s statements come as authorities investigate the underlying causes of the violence and work towards a lasting resolution.

With tensions simmering in Manipur, the government’s efforts to restore peace and foster unity are crucial. By addressing the concerns of different communities and promoting forgiveness and reconciliation, N Biren Singh aims to heal the wounds inflicted by the violence. The state government is determined to prevent Manipur from being torn apart along ethnic lines and maintains its commitment to ensuring a harmonious and united Manipur.
