Manipur Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, launched a one-time financial aid program worth INR 1,000 per person on June 27 to assist individuals displaced from their homes and villages due to ethnic violence that erupted on May 3. The aid program will be distributed to those living in relief camps to help with clothing and personal belongings. The Chief Minister expressed his sorrow to relief camp inmates at Youth Hostel in Imphal East District and at Lamphel in Imphal West District, adding that the government has been providing temporary housing facilities and shelter to those displaced. Singh also acknowledged the efforts of women, civil society organizations and government officials in preventing conflict and saving the lives of many people. The Chief Minister further stated that the government is building more temporary housing facilities for displaced persons, and they will stay in these facilities until the law and order situation improves. Singh encouraged the public to remain patient, not believe rumors, and keep calm. The financial assistance will be provided through the Deputy Commissioners of different districts.
