Amidst the ongoing violence in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited some relief camps in the state and announced that the government is planning to construct pre-fabricated houses to accommodate the affected people temporarily. The CM stated that around 3,000 to 4,000 houses would be constructed, and the government is searching for an appropriate location for the construction.
The recent violent incident took place when miscreants fired on Indian Army soldiers from Kanto Sabal towards Chingmang village, injuring one soldier. The CM expressed his concern and plans to hold a review meeting about the security, how it happened, and how to prevent such events from occurring in the future.
The regional authorities decided to relax curfew hours from 5 am to 5 pm on June 18 to facilitate the public’s purchase of essential items, including medicines and food in Imphal East district. However, the state government extended the shutdown on the internet up to June 20.
The violence broke out in Manipur on May 3 after clashes during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union against the demand to include Meiteis in the Scheduled Tribe list. Last week, miscreants attempted to burn down the official residence of Manipur Minister Nemcha Kipgen in Imphal West, partially burning his home.
Overall, the Manipur government endeavors to provide temporary relief to the affected people by constructing pre-fabricated houses and ensuring security measures to prevent any future violent incidents.
