Mangaluru City Police Launch Counselling Sessions for Drug Offenders
The Mangaluru city police have taken a revolutionary step towards rehabilitating individuals booked under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. In an effort to combat drug addiction and ensure a drug-free society, the police department has initiated counselling sessions for those who have been arrested for drug consumption.
According to the City Police Commissioner, Kuldeep Kumar R Jain, the counselling sessions were conducted on Sunday in all police stations, with a total of 160 participants. The sessions included both group and individual counselling, with a team of subject experts present, including doctors, psychologists, FSL experts, police officers, and others. The aim of these sessions is to provide support and guidance to those in need and to ensure their potential recovery.
This groundbreaking initiative follows a successful counselling session held last week for over 100 individuals who had tested positive for drug consumption over the past four months. Encouraged by the positive response and the desire to extend assistance to a larger pool of individuals, it was decided to extend the programme to a police station-level.
The city police are now planning to conduct counselling sessions for approximately 700 individuals who have been booked under the NDPS Act in Mangaluru city over the last three years. By addressing the underlying issues and providing the necessary support, the police hopes to help these individuals break free from the clutches of drug addiction.
Furthermore, the Mangaluru City Traffic Police have also taken a proactive approach towards ensuring the safety of underage riders and drivers. On Sunday, they conducted a counselling programme for parents, with a total of 79 participants. The top cop stated that fruitful discussions were held during the sessions, and all participants pledged to prioritize safety.
In response to a concerned caller during a phone-in programme held on Saturday, the commissioner acknowledged the issue of minors riding two-wheelers in Krishnapura and assured the public that the matter was being taken seriously. As a preventive measure, cameras have been installed in the area to monitor any violations.
The Mangaluru city police are truly setting an example with their concerted efforts to create a safer and drug-free environment. Through these counselling sessions, they aim to not only rehabilitate offenders but also educate and raise awareness about the dangers of drug consumption.
By prioritizing the well-being of society and adopting innovative strategies, the police department is leading the way towards a brighter and healthier future. Their approach is commendable, and it is hoped that other cities will follow suit in implementing similar initiatives.
