Journalist Dean Jones Reveals Potential Replacements for Erik Ten Hag at Manchester United

Expectations are mounting for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as the club experiences a rocky start to the season. The Red Devils, who finished third in the league and won the Carabao Cup under ten Hag’s guidance last season, currently find themselves in seventh place with seven losses in 16 Premier League games.

Rumors surrounding ten Hag’s potential departure have surfaced, with Graham Potter, Roberto De Zerbi, and Julen Lopetegui being considered as potential replacements, according to Caught Offside. However, journalist Dean Jones has shared his personal insight, suggesting that De Zerbi and Lopetegui are the stronger contenders for the job.

Jones, a reliable transfer insider, conveyed doubts about Potter’s fitness for the role based on his previous unsuccessful stint at Chelsea. Jones explained his reservations to Give Me Sport, stating, I have extreme reservations about Potter being able to handle life at Old Trafford based on what we saw from him at Chelsea.

Potter has been without a job since being sacked by Chelsea in April, while De Zerbi took over the managerial position at Brighton & Hove Albion after Potter’s departure and has been lauded for his success in transforming the team. Lopetegui, on the other hand, remains without a job after parting ways with Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2023.

In light of the upcoming match between Manchester United and Liverpool on December 17, Liverpool legend Graeme Souness named Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes as the only player from ten Hag’s side who would make the starting XI for Liverpool. Souness expressed his confidence in Liverpool’s ability to defeat their rivals, emphasizing that they have superior players in every position. He wrote in his column for The Daily Mail, Tell me, who would Liverpool take from Man United? Bruno Fernandes, perhaps. I think he would be a star in Liverpool’s team because he has all the qualities you need to be a top player.

The upcoming game at Anfield holds additional pressure for Manchester United, as they haven’t scored against Liverpool on their home turf since 2018 and suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat in their away fixture last season.

As the situation at Manchester United intensifies, fans worldwide eagerly await updates on the potential replacements for Erik ten Hag. Will De Zerbi or Lopetegui take the reins, or will Potter defy the doubts surrounding his abilities? Only time will tell how Manchester United’s management will navigate this crucial decision.
