A new report by startup lobby group Coadec, now the Startup Coalition, reveals that Manchester Central constituency is home to the highest number of tech startups outside of London, with a total of 252. Eight out of the top-ranking constituencies are in London. Manchester’s high concentration of startups is closely followed by Cambridge, with 245 startups, demonstrating that while London still dominates, there are signs of continued growth for startups outside of the golden triangle of Oxford, Cambridge and London. The highest concentration of tech startups in Scotland is Edinburgh North and Leith, with 144 businesses, while Belfast South constituency took the top spot in Northern Ireland, with 119 startups. The report was launched to coincide with London Tech Week and reveals that while London’s tech industry has proved successful, it now faces new challenges. The Startup Coalition is appointing Kirti Nuthi as its new head of tech regulation and steering board. Carlos Espinal, Managing Partner at Seedcamp and Tom Shinner, COO of Entrepreneur First, are among those on the board.
