Chris Brown, a digital marketing businessman from the United Kingdom, has spoken up about backing out of the ill-fated Titanic wreckage expedition on the Titan submersible. Brown cited security concerns and high risks for cancelling his trip. Oceangate facilitated the expedition to the wreckage of Titanic TI on Sunday, but the submersible was due to resurface seven hours later and never did. A multinational search and rescue operation was launched to find the submersible, but Oceangate announced on Friday that all five passengers on board passed away.
Although Brown paid the initial deposit to join the expedition with the late British billionaire Hamish Harding, he claimed he backed out after discovering that Oceangate was cutting corners. He stated that the submersible’s ballast had old scaffolding poles and that its controls were based on computer game-style controllers. Eventually I emailed them and said, ‘I’m no longer able to go on this thing. I asked for a refund after being less than convinced, he said.
Brown emphasised his passion for modern-day exploration and pushing the boundaries of knowledge, but he realised there were too many alarming issues with the submersible for his liking. He labelled the Titanic wreck an iconic destination for explorers and a chance to add some science to the situation. Brown’s concerns were not unfounded as five people lost their lives on the ill-fated trip. The tragedy has once again highlighted the importance of safety and compliance in all areas of adventure tourism.
