Man Sentenced to Death for Sacrificing His Son to Become Rich
A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to death by an Accra High Court for the gruesome murder of his two-year-old son. Prince Acquaye, also known as Juu, threw his son into the sea at Akuma Village in Accra as a sacrifice in his attempt to attain wealth. The jury unanimously returned a guilty verdict on him.
It is important to note that Ghana’s Parliament recently repealed the death penalty, but the new law will only apply to new cases and not pending ones like this.
According to the prosecution, Abigail Nyumor, the complainant, was the girlfriend of the convict and they both worked as food vendors. They lived together with their only son, the deceased.
In February 2021, the convict allegedly told Nyumor not to worry if something happened to their son as they were going to become rich soon. Then on April 20, 2021, at around noon, the victim requested money from the convict to buy groundnuts. The convict gave him GHC5.00 and then took advantage of the situation.
While Nyumor was taking a nap, Acquaye lured his son to the seaside and heartlessly threw him into the sea. The complainant was later awakened by neighbors who informed her of what had transpired. Acquaye was promptly arrested, and the victim was rescued and rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Unfortunately, he passed away the following day.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the convict had become involved with occultism and was instructed to make a sacrifice. Tragically, he chose his own son as the sacrifice and callously carried out the act by throwing him into the cliff at Akuma Village, which stands 33 feet above sea level.
This shocking case serves as a harrowing reminder of the lengths some individuals are willing to go to in their pursuit of wealth and success.
