Man posing as impersonator arrested for raping and blackmailing woman in Delhi

A man has been arrested in Delhi, India, for impersonating someone else and raping a woman while also blackmailing her. The man, identified as Shahrukh, posed as a Hindu to befriend the victim, a 22-year-old woman from West Karawal Nagar, in October 2020. Over time, the friendship progressed to a physical relationship, but in January this year, the woman discovered Shahrukh’s true identity and wished to end the relationship. This is when the situation took a turn for the worse. Shahrukh had secretly taken explicit photos and videos of their private encounters without the woman’s knowledge or consent. He then began to blackmail and threaten her, pressuring her to remain friends with him by using the explicit material as leverage. If the woman refused, Shahrukh warned that he would publicly share the explicit material on social media platforms. The victim reported the incident to the authorities and the Karawal Nagar police have charged Shahrukh with several offenses under the Indian Penal Code, including rape, sexual harassment, voyeurism, stalking, house-trespass, and criminal intimidation. The police have arrested the accused, and an investigation is underway.
