A man, identified as Abdul Shahid (42), allegedly killed his wife by slitting her throat with a knife in Karimganj early on Sunday.
Sources said at around 5 am on Sunday, Abdul Shahid of Jabainpur near Karimganj town hacked his wife Jaba Begum (35) to death with a knife. Immediately after getting the news, people from the locality gathered and recovered the body of the woman from the spot and took her to the Karimganj Civil Hospital. Doctors on duty at the hospital declared Jaba Begum dead on arrival. Later the body was sent for an autopsy.
Sources said, the neighbours came to the spot after hearing the screams and snatched the knife from Abdul Shahid’s hands and detained him. Karimganj Sadar police station OC Bhaben Dihangiya later arrived at the scene with a team. The police arrested the accused and took him to the police station.
The couple has two daughters and one son, relatives said.
