Man Fatally Injured while Chasing Thief: Father’s Valiant Efforts in Vain
In a tragic turn of events, a 36-year-old Thai man named Charoen Katemongkut lost his life while attempting to apprehend a thief who had stolen valuable items from his home. The incident occurred yesterday morning, and the Phra Putthabat Police Station officers swiftly launched an investigation into the shocking death.
Upon arriving at the scene, the authorities discovered Charoen’s lifeless body lying by the roadside, approximately one kilometer away from his residence. His body bore multiple scratches, and blood was seen seeping from his mouth and nose. Disturbingly, car tire marks were found on his stomach. Although an empty holster was still attached to his jeans, no weapon could be located in the vicinity.
According to Charoen’s grief-stricken father, Samroeng Katemongkut, he personally witnessed the entire ordeal unfold. It began when the thief made off with an air conditioning compressor, a solar panel, and various other electrical appliances from their home. As the thief fled in a pickup truck, Charoen bravely climbed onto the vehicle’s bonnet in an effort to prevent his escape.
The thief, desperate to shake off Charoen, accelerated at high speed. Tragically, Charoen was unable to maintain his grip and fell from the moving truck. In a horrifying turn of events, the heartless thief proceeded to run over him multiple times before making a hasty getaway.
Showing immense courage and determination, Samroeng pursued the thief on his motorbike. With a knife in hand, he attempted to break the car window and prevent the thief from further harming his son. However, despite his valiant efforts, Samroeng was unable to prevent the thief from running over Charoen one final time before disappearing into the distance.
Samroeng revealed that this was not the first time the thief had targeted their home. The perpetrator had repeatedly managed to evade capture in previous encounters, causing great distress and frustration for the family.
In hopes of shedding more light on the incident, the police thoroughly examined a security camera owned by one of Charoen’s neighbors. Their investigation also included plans to review footage from other CCTV cameras along the Phra Phutthabat-Kok Toom Road, in an attempt to trace the escape route taken by the heartless thief.
An update shared through a rescuer’s Facebook post revealed that a CCTV camera near the scene of the crime captured the suspect’s vehicle, identified as a black Mitsubishi Triton pickup with the license plate number 3137, originating from the Lob Buri province.
The heartbreaking loss of Charoen Katemongkut has left the community in shock, highlighting the importance of addressing the issue of crime prevention and ensuring the safety of individuals and their property. The police are working diligently to bring the perpetrator to justice, employing all available resources to ensure that this heart-wrenching incident does not go unanswered.
