Title: Nevada Man Found Guilty of Felony Assault for Brutal Attack on Girlfriend

A shocking case of domestic violence came to a close this week as 32-year-old Nicholas Robert Wagner of Nevada was found guilty of felony aggravated assault. The trial, presided over by Judge Lisa P. Dodson at the Hancock County Courthouse in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, lasted for two days. The victim, Wagner’s girlfriend at the time, bravely testified against him, recounting a harrowing ordeal that took place on September 28, 2020, at the Aloha Trailer Park.

According to the victim’s testimony, Wagner attempted to strangle her, forcefully threw her onto the floor, dragged her by her hair, and then poured household cleaner over her head. The terrifying assault only ceased when a concerned neighbor knocked on their door, giving the victim an opportunity to escape. Responding officers found the victim visibly distraught, with red marks on her neck, bruises on her body, and a laceration on her leg that aligned with her account. Photographs of her injuries were presented as evidence during the trial.

The jury also heard from the courageous neighbor who witnessed the victim’s injuries as she fled from the scene. This witness further revealed that Wagner himself admitted to attempting to choke the victim. Subsequently, authorities apprehended Wagner at the Motel 6 in Waveland, where he was staying with a friend.

Following the jury’s verdict, Judge Dodson ordered a presentence investigation to be carried out by the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Wagner is set to be sentenced on September 18, 2023, in Gulfport. If convicted, he faces a possible penalty of two to twenty years in prison for the heinous act of attempted strangulation.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing prevalence of domestic violence and the imperative need for society to stand against such acts. It also highlights the importance of neighbors and communities stepping forward to support victims and survivors, offering them a lifeline when they need it most.

The conviction of Nicholas Robert Wagner not only brings a sense of justice for the victim but also sends a powerful message that abusive behavior will not be tolerated. This verdict serves as a testament to the dedication and hard work of Assistant District Attorneys Chris Daniel and Haley Broom, who prosecuted the case with utmost professionalism.

As the legal process continues, we must remain committed to providing resources and support for victims of domestic violence. Together, let us strive for a future where no one lives in fear and where our communities stand united against those who perpetrate such acts of violence.
