Bakersfield Man Convicted of Robbery Spree, Could Face 20-Year Prison Sentence
A recent court ruling has brought justice to the victims of a robbery spree that shook east Bakersfield in February. Angel Luis Aleman Gonzalez has been found guilty on three counts of robbery, including two incidents involving a firearm. The conviction could see Gonzalez facing up to 20 years behind bars.

The first incident occurred on February 7, 2023, when Gonzalez approached a booth in east Bakersfield that provided assistance with low-income phone services. After an employee helped him with an application using a Samsung tablet, it was revealed that Gonzalez did not qualify for the services. Frustrated and driven by desperation, he made a snap decision to steal the tablet and hastily fled the scene.

Later that same day, Gonzalez targeted a food truck in east Bakersfield. Armed with a gun, he confronted an employee and demanded money. As the terrified employee complied, Gonzalez shifted his focus to a second employee, threatening them with the firearm. He swiftly grabbed the cash from the employees and fled yet again.

The relentless efforts of the Kern County Sheriff’s deputies led to Gonzalez’s eventual arrest. Once in custody, he confessed to the robberies, leaving no doubt about his guilt. Cynthia Zimmer, the Kern County District Attorney, expressed relief that yet another violent criminal had been taken off the streets and the peace of mind it would bring to those who feared becoming victims of a robbery.

In addition to the charges of robbery, Gonzalez also faces accusations of grand theft from a person and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The jury unanimously agreed that he had used the gun during the two robberies, further compounding the severity of the offenses.

However, it is important to note that the jury acquitted Gonzalez of second-degree robbery and two counts of second-degree attempted robbery from unrelated incidents, indicating a balanced and fair judgment.

As the sentencing date approaches on November 20, Gonzalez is left anxiously awaiting his fate. If given the maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison, it would serve as a significant deterrent to others considering such criminal activity and provide a sense of justice to the victims.

This verdict highlights the dedication and commitment of law enforcement officials in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. It also serves as a reminder to all individuals that crime does not pay and will be met with swift and uncompromising justice.

The closure brought about by this conviction will offer some solace to the victims who experienced the fear and trauma of being robbed. It is hoped that it will also act as a deterrent to potential criminals, preventing them from causing further harm.

Ultimately, the sentencing will serve to establish the consequences of such actions and to send a clear message that criminal behavior will not be tolerated in Bakersfield. The community can rest assured knowing that justice has been served and that steps are being taken to protect their safety and well-being.
