Columbus Police are currently seeking public assistance in locating Lazaro Becerra, a 50-year-old individual who has been charged in connection with a tragic Halloween crash in 2022 that led to the devastating death of a young 4-year-old girl. The incident occurred in northeast Columbus while the child was out trick-or-treating.

Becerra is now facing serious charges related to this incident, including vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter, and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The collision took place at the intersection of Westerville Road and Valley Park Avenue.

Despite the activation of flashing crosswalk lights, both the child and an accompanying adult were tragically struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. The young victim was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Becerra’s whereabouts to immediately contact the Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit at 614-645-4767. Anonymous tips can also be provided to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers by dialing 614-461-TIPS (8477).

The community has been deeply affected by this heartbreaking incident and it is crucial to find justice for the young girl and her family. The diligent work of the Columbus Police and the assistance of the public will be vital in finding and apprehending Becerra.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains on determining the circumstances surrounding the crash and holding the responsible party accountable for their actions. It is important for drivers to exercise caution and prioritize the safety of pedestrians, especially during festive occasions like Halloween when there is increased foot traffic.

The tragic loss of a young life in this Halloween crash serves as a somber reminder of the importance of careful driving and pedestrian safety. Authorities are actively pursuing justice in this case and are relying on the support and cooperation of the community to bring closure to the grieving family.
