Man Arrested for Shoplifting Pokémon at West Orchards Shopping Centre in Coventry
In a recent incident at the West Orchards Shopping Centre in Coventry, a man was caught shoplifting Pokémon merchandise. The whole ordeal was captured on the popular television show Shoplifters: Stripping the Shelves, which aired on Monday, November 13.
The security guards at the shopping center were alerted to the theft when they noticed a person running at high speed from the Toytown store. The suspect managed to disappear briefly before being apprehended and taken to the Holding Room within West Orchards.
According to one of the security guards who participated in the television show, the man did not prove to be difficult during the incident. He put his hands up, admitted defeat, and returned the stolen items, said Paige, the guard.
Further investigation revealed that the value of the stolen Pokémon merchandise amounted to £49. When asked why he had stolen the items, the shoplifter confessed that he had done it because it’s what people wanted, implying that he intended to sell them rather than keep them for himself. Paige recognized the suspect as a repeat offender who had previously shoplifted from Marks and Spencer, making this incident even more unfortunate.
The security guard shared his thoughts on the situation, stating, It is just one of those unfortunate things where he has fallen back into a bad habit. He is not a terrible person; he is not verbally abusive or anything like that. He admitted defeat and returned the stock.
As a consequence of his actions, the shoplifter has been banned from West Orchards Shopping Centre for a year. This incident sheds light on the ongoing problem of shoplifting, which reportedly costs retailers £1.4 billion each year.
In addition to the Pokémon shoplifting incident, security guards at West Orchards were also kept busy by a group of three middle-aged men causing trouble in Footasylum. Staff members described them as childish and claimed they were pretending to shoplift, resulting in their eviction from the shopping center.
Shoplifters: Stripping the Shelves is a popular television show that showcases the challenges faced by retailers due to shoplifting. It airs on Channel 5 on Mondays at 10pm.
