In a stunning and violent turn of events, a man attacked a judge in a Las Vegas courtroom after being denied probation. The incident occurred during the sentencing of Deobra Redden, 30, who had pleaded guilty to attempted battery with substantial bodily harm. Clark District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus cited Redden’s criminal history as the reason for denying him probation, stating, I think it’s time he got a taste of something else because I just can’t with that history.

Moments after the judge’s decision, chaos ensued as Redden leaped over the bench and launched himself at Judge Holthus. The terrifying ordeal was caught on camera, showing Redden punching the judge while screaming profanities. Prior to the attack, he was heard shouting, nah, f*** that b****. Court officers, jail officers, and security guards intervened and managed to subdue Redden after a struggle. He was subsequently arrested and charged with multiple felony charges, including battery on a protected person.

Judge Holthus sustained injuries during the attack but did not need to be hospitalized. However, her condition is being closely monitored. A court marshal was also injured and taken to a hospital, where he is believed to be in stable condition.

District Attorney Steve Wolfson expressed gratitude that the judge was unharmed, praising the heroic efforts of her law clerk and marshal who intervened. Wolfson stated, Without them, the situation would have been much worse as this defendant exhibited extremely violent behavior, and I’m confident there will be consequences.

The Las Vegas District Court commended the staff, law enforcement, and others who risked their safety to bring Redden under control. The court emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for judges, employees, and the public. They are reviewing security measures to ensure the protection of the judiciary and those involved in court proceedings.

Redden’s criminal history includes previous prison sentences for offenses such as attempted theft in 2015 and domestic battery in 2021, according to Nevada Department of Corrections records.

This shocking incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers faced by judges and court personnel in the pursuit of justice. It also highlights the importance of robust security measures within courtrooms to ensure the safety of all individuals present.

As the situation continues to unfold, authorities are determined to hold Deobra Redden accountable for his violent actions. The court remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding justice while prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of all those within its walls.
