A man caused a scene and hurled obscenities at police officers after they stopped to assist him with his broken-down car. Ahmed Abrar, 28, came to the attention of the officers on Newton Street in the city center at around 3pm on November 29. Upon closer inspection, the police found a woman exiting the vehicle with her children and appeared distressed. Beside the car stood Abrar, who seemed highly intoxicated. The officers approached him and immediately detected the smell of alcohol. They requested Abrar to take a breath test, but he refused adamantly. In a fit of rage, he unleashed a torrent of abusive language at the cops, even resorting to shouting profanities like f**k off. As a result, he was placed under arrest, during which he violently struggled against the officers. Although they managed to handcuff him, Abrar continued to lash out with his legs in an attempt to kick them, fortunately missing his targets. Later in the afternoon, around 4.30pm, the police once again requested a breath sample from Abrar at the station, but he refused once more. Consequently, he was kept in custody, cautioned, and charged. Abrar pleaded guilty to multiple offenses, including behaving in a threatening manner, failing to cooperate with a breath test, resisting arrest, and attacking the police. During a hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Abrar’s lawyer shed light on the circumstances. His family moved to Birmingham temporarily, which led him to seek help, the lawyer explained. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Abrar has sought assistance from social work. However, he has lost his job, having been a diligent worker. It was also revealed that he has another drink driving matter that remains unresolved. After considering all the facts, Sheriff Iain Fleming sentenced Abrar to 280 hours of unpaid work, imposed 10 points on his license, and disqualified him from driving for six months. The judge’s ruling takes into account the gravity of Abrar’s actions and the potential danger posed to his wife and children.
