Watertown Store Owner Arrested for Selling Illegal Cannabis and Unstamped Cigarettes

In a recent development, authorities in Watertown have arrested a store owner for engaging in the illicit sale of unstamped cigarettes, fraudulent tax stamps, and illegal cannabis. Moniruzzaman Mir, a 44-year-old resident of Shelton and owner of dP Mart on Main Street, now faces charges related to these offenses.

This arrest comes as the result of a thorough investigation prompted by numerous citizen complaints regarding illegal activities taking place at the store. The complaints primarily focused on the alleged sale of marijuana products and the illegal provision of goods to underage buyers.

Watertown police acted on these complaints, conducting several undercover operations during which investigators were able to purchase marijuana from the business. As their case gained traction, a search and seizure warrant was executed in February, with multiple organizations collaborating on the operation. The Watertown Police were joined by the Department of Revenue Services, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and the Department of Consumer Protection.

During the search, a significant quantity of evidence was collected. The authorities confiscated products that exceeded the legally allowable limit of total THC, cannabis items containing THC derived from cannabis, cannabis products originating from California, and cannabis items strictly intended for medical purposes. Additionally, the police also seized unstamped cigarettes as well as cigarettes carrying fraudulent State of Connecticut tax stamps.

The investigation culminated in the seizure of more than 800 illegal items related to the sale of cannabis and unstamped cigarettes. These findings provide clear evidence of the violations that were reportedly taking place within the premises of dP Mart.

Following the conclusion of the investigation, Moniruzzaman Mir surrendered himself at the Watertown Police Department. He has since been transferred to Waterbury Superior Court and is currently held on a $100,000 bond.

This arrest and subsequent charges serve as a stern reminder that illegal activities will not be tolerated within the community. Law enforcement agencies are committed to upholding the law and protecting citizens from potential harm caused by the sale of unauthorized and potentially dangerous items. The collaboration between various departments showcases the determination to effectively tackle such criminal activities.

As this case progresses, it sheds light on the importance of public vigilance. Citizen complaints paved the way for this investigation, emphasizing the role that community members play in helping authorities identify and address illegal activities. By reporting suspicious incidents, residents contribute significantly to maintaining law and order, safeguarding their neighborhoods, and ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone involved.

The charges faced by Moniruzzaman Mir will now be subject to the legal process. Residents of Watertown and surrounding areas can find solace in the fact that law enforcement agencies are actively working to tackle these issues and create a safe environment for all.
