Man Arrested for Selling Daughter’s Newborn to Baby Factory in Abia

A shocking incident has unfolded in Oyo State, Nigeria, where a man was arrested for selling his daughter’s newborn baby to a baby factory in Abia State. The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, is believed to have seized the day-old infant from his teenage daughter, Sarah Chukwuka, on July 10. The baby was subsequently sold for the sum of N700,000 ($1,707 USD) to the owner of the baby factory.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Adebola Hamzat, addressed the media in Ibadan to provide details of the arrest. According to him, the suspect claimed to be the biological father of the baby’s teenage mother. He tricked her into believing that he would hand the baby over to a caregiver, only to later disappear with the child. The man was apprehended at his hideout in Ibafo, Ogun State.

The investigation led to the discovery of the baby factory in Abia State, where the newborn was being held. With the assistance of local law enforcement, five additional suspects, including a female suspect identified as Bunmi, were apprehended at the scene. The factory was found to be equipped with a bundle of new birth certificates and various equipment used in the labor room. The police have seized these items as evidence.

Baby factories, unfortunately, are not uncommon in certain parts of Nigeria. These illegal facilities exploit vulnerable women, often abducting or coercing them into giving birth and then selling their infants for profit. The newborns are sometimes used for child trafficking, forced labor, or adoption scams.

The arrest of the man responsible for selling his own grandchild is a grim reminder of the harrowing reality faced by young mothers and their babies in Nigeria. Oyo State and Abia State authorities are working together to dismantle the baby factory and ensure that justice is served. Efforts are also being made to rescue any other victims who may be in the factory’s custody.

Cases like these shed light on the desperate need to address the issue of baby factories and child trafficking in Nigeria. It is crucial for society to come together to protect vulnerable individuals, particularly young mothers and their children. The authorities must continue to investigate and prosecute those involved in these heinous crimes to send a strong message that such acts will not be tolerated.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could be related to child trafficking or baby factories. By raising awareness and staying vigilant, we can contribute to the eradication of this horrific practice and create a safer environment for the most vulnerable members of our society.
