On Dec. 9, police were called to the 100 block of Disraeli Freeway after a man had been assaulted earlier that day and taken to hospital by ambulance.
While in hospital, the victim’s condition deteriorated, and on Boxing Day he died from his injuries.
After consulting the Crown, a manslaughter charge was authorized for the death of 59-year-old Floyd Flett of Winnipeg. It was the 43rd homicide of the year in Winnipeg.
On Friday, police took a 30-year-old man into custody for manslaughter and other weapons-related charges, and he remains in custody. The accused’s name is being withheld to a later date for investigational purposes, police said.
