Man Arrested for Groping Women in Millbrae, Suspected Ties to Additional Cases
Authorities in San Mateo County have apprehended a man believed to be responsible for a series of groping incidents targeting women in the Millbrae area. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest on Sunday, following reports from two women who had experienced unwarranted physical contact by an unknown male suspect.
The first incident occurred on August 13, when a 28-year-old woman was walking along the Spur Trail near Millbrae Avenue. She reported being groped by a man she described as approximately 30 years old and 5 feet 7 inches tall. The second incident involved a 38-year-old woman who was walking with her son in the 200 block of Poplar Avenue when she was also groped from behind. She provided a similar description of the suspect, estimating his age to be between 20 and 30 and his height at 5 feet 10 inches.
Both women noted that the suspect was wearing a black hoodie with white writing on the back. In response to these incidents, the Sheriff’s Office deployed decoys, plainclothes detectives, and uniformed patrol deputies to the Spur Trail area in an effort to locate the suspect.
The breakthrough came when a community member in San Bruno reported spotting a suspicious individual in San Bruno City Park. Officers arrived at the scene and identified a person matching the description of the Millbrae suspect. Jaime Garcia Mogollan, a 40-year-old man, was consequently arrested and evidence was found allegedly linking him to the crimes.
Mogollan has been booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of felony sexual battery by restraint, with bail set at $300,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Concerned that there may be additional victims, the Sheriff’s Office is urging any witnesses or individuals with relevant information to come forward. Detective A. Baggetta can be contacted at 650-363-4192 or via email at abagetta@smcgov.org.
The arrest of Jaime Garcia Mogollan brings some relief to the Millbrae community, as law enforcement takes swift action in addressing these disturbing cases of assault. However, the authorities remain diligent in their investigation, acknowledging the possibility of other potential victims. By urging individuals with information to come forward, they hope to ensure justice for any undisclosed incidents and prevent further harm.
Sexual assault is a serious crime that causes physical and emotional harm to victims, and it is crucial for communities to stand united against such behavior. The arrest in Millbrae serves as a reminder that individuals who perpetrate these acts will be held accountable for their actions. The efforts of law enforcement and the cooperation of community members are vital in maintaining public safety and upholding justice.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes the importance of reporting any incidents of sexual assault or providing information that may assist in ongoing investigations. By doing so, witnesses and potential victims can contribute to the identification and prosecution of perpetrators, helping to ensure a safer environment for everyone.
