A Bowling Green man charged with assaulting his mother and deputies from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is set to appear for a preliminary hearing. Richard Bill Logsdon, 45, was taken into custody last week following an altercation at a motel in southern Laurel County. He faces multiple charges including disorderly conduct, assault, terroristic threatening, menacing, and public intoxication. Logsdon allegedly beat his mother, leading to a bystander shoving him to the ground. During his arrest, he reportedly resisted officers and made threats towards them. Logsdon was arraigned and pleaded not guilty, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday. He is currently held in the Laurel County Detention Center with a $25,000 bond.

The incident unfolded on February 14 when Deputies Austyn Weddle and Byron Grimes responded to reports of a belligerent individual at a motel near KY 770. Upon arrival, Deputy Weddle discovered that Logsdon had allegedly been assaulting his own mother, resulting in a head wound that required stitches.

As the officers attempted to take Logsdon into custody, he reportedly put up a fight, kicking them and issuing threats to kill them once he was released from Baptist Health Corbin. Furthermore, Logsdon is accused of using inappropriate language towards hospital staff while receiving treatment for his head wound.

Logsdon appeared in court on Friday, where a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf. The preliminary hearing, held on Tuesday, aimed to assess the evidence and determine if the case would proceed to trial. The outcome of the hearing is yet to be disclosed.

Meanwhile, Logsdon remains incarcerated at the Laurel County Detention Center, unable to post bail set at $25,000. Authorities are taking these charges seriously, ensuring public safety and considering the severity of the alleged offenses.

Law enforcement agencies remind residents to promptly report any suspicious or violent incidents. They emphasize that assault, especially within domestic settings, should not be tolerated and encourage victims or witnesses to step forward.

With Logsdon’s preliminary hearing underway, further details and updates regarding the case will be made available. The justice system will work diligently to examine the evidence and ensure a fair resolution.

While the incident occurred in southern Laurel County, the impact of domestic violence and assaults on law enforcement extends beyond one particular region. It serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by communities and the dedication of officers to maintain public safety.

As the case progresses, the community awaits the outcome of the preliminary hearing, eager to see justice served and any necessary actions taken to protect residents and law enforcement personnel from harm.
