A man was arrested in West Haven for stealing a truck that contained approximately $30,000 worth of ice cream. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Travis Jones, was apprehended after a joint effort between the West Haven Police Department, the Connecticut State Police, and the Bridgeport Police Auto Theft Task Force.
The incident took place on January 29 at around 9 p.m. The West Haven Police Department received a 911 call reporting the theft of an ice cream truck from a business on Boston Post Road. The victim, who was delivering ice cream at the time, stated that the truck was taken from the parking lot and that the vehicle contained a substantial amount of ice cream.
Officers swiftly responded to the report, commencing a search for the stolen ice cream truck. Collaboration with the Connecticut State Police proved fruitful as troopers located the stolen vehicle traveling on I-95 south in Milford.
Utilizing their expertise, officers from the Bridgeport Police Auto Theft Task Force, in conjunction with state police, successfully persuaded the driver of the ice cream truck to halt on the I-95 south Exit 27A off-ramp. 35-year-old Travis Jones was identified as the suspect operating the stolen truck. He was taken into custody without resistance.
After being taken back to the West Haven Police Department, Jones was processed and formally charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and first-degree larceny. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
