Texas Man Wearing Ankle Monitor Nabbed After Woman Beaten, Left for Dead: Cops
According to the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office, Roger Gonzalez, 31, was apprehended Dec. 2 — the day after the attack — by sheriff’s investigators and San Antonio Police officers.
Police were called to a rural area near Poteet, south of San Antonio, on the afternoon of Dec. 1 to investigate reports about an injured woman.
Deputies located the woman and determined she had been beaten, stabbed, and had her throat slashed, Atascosa County Sheriff David Soward said in a news release shared on Facebook.
She was left for dead rolled up in plastic in a pasture.
The victim was taken to a San Antonio hospital in serious, but stable condition, reported ABC affiliate KSAT.
Following an investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant the next day for Gonzalez on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony.
Police said Gonzalez was wearing an ankle monitor during the assault.
Soward said Gonzalez and the woman were in a relationship and they both live in San Antonio, according to CBS affiliate KENS.
According to court records, Gonzalez also has a criminal history in California for drug and weapons convictions.
