Madhya Pradesh’s Mamleshwar Setu has finally opened its doors to the pilgrims after undergoing renovation. A suspension bridge, connecting Bramhapuri end to Shivpuri end over Narmada, was inaugurated by MP Gyaneshwar Patil and MLA Narayan Patel on Friday.
The opening ceremony comes after a Morbi-like incident was averted in Omkareshwar, a holy town of Madhya Pradesh, in Khandwa district. The suspension bridge was suspended after one of its cables snapped. The incident brought officials on their toes and movement of pedestrians was restricted after the accident.
After the bridge underwent renovation, it was inspected by a team of technicians before being opened for pilgrims. MP Patil and MLA Patel have claimed that the bridge was renovated upon their request to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and collector Anup Kumar Singh. Along with them, the Omkareshwar Municipal Council president Manisha Parihar and other councillors, including BJP district president Sevadas Patel and Harish Kotwale, were also present at the opening ceremony.
The newly renovated Mamleshwar Setu is a crucial path for pilgrims to get to the grand Omkareshwar temple situated on the other side of the river Narmada. With its reopening, the pilgrims can now have a smooth and safe journey to the temple without any difficulties.
The officials hope that this would not just help the pilgrims to have a comfortable and safe journey to the temple but also make it easier for the locals around the area to connect and transport smoothly. The bridge has been an important landmark connecting the two ends of the river, and after renovation, it would once again serve its purpose for long years to come.
