West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the Railway Board’s decision to hand over the inquiry into the Odisha train accident to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and called for transparency in the investigation. She said that it is not the time to suppress the truth and that the Railway Safety Commission should handle the investigation. Banerjee also criticized the CBI for not producing results in the Gyaneshwari Express case. The Odisha government has identified 151 out of 275 bodies from the triple train accident that occurred on June 2. Banerjee has announced that the West Bengal government will support the families of victims by offering a special home guard job to one of their members and providing ex-gratia amounts and job letters. The Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Coromandel Express, and a goods train were involved in the accident that took place in the Balasore district. Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that full train services have now been restored on both lines after 51 hours of disruption.
