Mamata risking national security for vote bank politics; BJP to win 35 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal: Amit Shah

KOLKATA: Home minister Amit Shah accused chief minister Mamata Banerjee of risking national security by protecting infiltrators for vote bank politics and asserted the BJP will win more than 35 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in the 2024 polls.

Addressing a meeting of the state BJP’s social media and IT wing members, Shah launched a sharp attack on the TMC government, alleging that cut money collected from the state is used to buy palatial mansions in foreign countries but the same people move around here in slippers, party sources said.

People will no longer be hoodwinked by these optics and seek accountability for the Trinamool Congress government’s work, he said.

Shah further accused Mahua Moitra of sharing her Parliament portal password with businessmen in exchange for gifts. He also criticized the chief minister for defending her.

How many questions were about the poor in Bengal? Shah asked, adding that TMC MPs refrain from asking such questions because they will not receive expensive gifts for doing so.

Shah went on to criticize TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee for mimicking Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, calling it unbecoming behavior for a lawmaker.

Accusing Mamata Banerjee of jeopardizing national security, Shah said, Didi (CM Mamata Banerjee) has put national security at stake for her vote bank politics by protecting infiltrators so that they would vote for her.

Shah claimed that Bengal, once a leader in every aspect, is now known for corruption, syndicate, infiltration, dynastic politics, and bomb blasts.

He also highlighted the recovery of stacks of currency notes worth Rs 50 crore from TMC leaders, including a minister, stating that Banerjee refers to them as soldiers of her party.

Expressing confidence in the BJP’s win in over 35 seats, Shah called on party workers to ensure victory. He expressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make Sonar Bangla, referring to West Bengal, the land of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, a founding ideologue of the party.

Shah noted that the BJP’s tally increased from zero to 77 seats in the 2021 assembly polls, and they won 18 Lok Sabha seats in 2019. He proclaimed that the party could now form a government with a two-thirds majority in the state during the 2026 elections.

Mamata Banerjee used to underestimate the BJP, Shah said, adding that the chief minister has failed to deliver good governance since she took office in 2011.

Forming a BJP government in West Bengal will mean the end of infiltration, cow smuggling, and the (grant of) citizenship to religiously persecuted people through the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, he declared.

Shah compared the funds allocated to Bengal by the Congress-led UPA government and the Modi government, stating that the Modi government gave significantly more and demanding an account for every rupee.

Accusing Banerjee of stalling development works by Modi in the state, Shah claimed it was due to her fear that the BJP’s popularity will increase.

Shah expressed that the BJP would rely on its social media strength to contest the polls in the state, as he alleged that regional media does not carry its message under the state government’s pressure.

If you all, social media warriors, decide, you can have more reach than any channel or newspaper, and no one can stop you from making Modi Ji win. That is the reason you have the biggest responsibility, he said.

The statements made by Shah during the meeting illustrate the BJP’s strong criticism of the TMC government and its confidence in securing a substantial number of Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in the upcoming elections. The Home Minister accused Mamata Banerjee of compromising national security for the sake of her vote bank and highlighted alleged corruption and nepotism within the TMC government. Shah emphasized the need for accountability and urged party workers to leverage the power of social media to convey the BJP’s message effectively. The BJP leader also made promises about ending infiltration and other issues in the region if the BJP were to form a government in West Bengal. As the political landscape intensifies in the state, the BJP’s ambitions and messages are being put forward with determination and conviction.
