MAMAMOO’s Hwasa Faces Police Complaint for Public Indecency During Concert Performance

K-pop girl group MAMAMOO’s Hwasa has recently come under fire for allegedly engaging in public indecency during her latest concert performance. The Student Parents and Human Rights Protection Solidarity organization has filed a police complaint regarding her actions at the Sungkyunkwan University Festival. Hwasa’s agency, P Nation, has responded briefly to the accusations.

The incident took place on Monday during Hwasa’s performance as part of the television program Dancing Queens On The Road, which aired on tvN. It was during her solo song Don’t that the association claims she made a suggestive gesture that offended certain viewers. Multiple Korean news outlets reported that the Student Parents and Human Rights Protection Solidarity accused the idol of causing discomfort to the public and said that the gesture went beyond the context of the performance. In response, the singer’s agency stated, We understand that the police are reviewing the case.

The investigation is currently ongoing. Following the news of the complaint, many fans expressed support for Hwasa. One fan stated, This is ridiculous, while another acknowledged that while the performance was for college students who may engage in adult activities, it was still a school-related event. Others attributed the incident to the current economic situation, suggesting that the complaint was a result of unemployment.

MAMAMOO, comprised of four members—Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein, and Hwasa—made their debut in 2014 with their first EP, Hello. Critics acclaimed their entry into the music scene as one of the best K-pop debuts of the year.

The group has released several popular tracks over the years, including Mr Ambiguous (2014), Taller Than You (2016), Um Oh Ah Yeah (2015), Girl Crush (2015), You’re the Best (2016), Emotion (2016), Woo Hoo (2016), and Décalcomanie (2016). Their most recent release was their 12th EP, Mic On, featuring the single Illella, which came out in October last year.
