A well-known Malayalam film writer, Najeem Koya, has claimed that a recent Excise department raid of his hotel room in Erattupetta, Kottayam district, was an attempt to trap him. Koya alleged that a team of more than 20 officials searched his room but found nothing incriminating. He also claimed that the officials were rude and ransacked his belongings. During the 2-3 hour long raid, Koya said he was concerned they might plant something to arrest him. However, the Excise department denies these allegations and said they carried out the raid based on an input from their Intelligence division. A senior official said they had followed all formalities and reported to the Judicial First Class Magistrate’s court concerned. Koya has lodged a complaint with the Kerala Chief Minister about the incident.
