The US Coast Guard has confirmed that five major pieces of the Titanic submersible have been found and that the bodies of those on board may not be recovered. The vessel, called the ‘Titan’ was on an expedition to the Titanic wreckage when it went missing. The search team found the tail cone of the submersible approximately 1600ft from the bow of the Titanic wreck, as well as additional debris. Rear Admiral John Mauger stated that the search team discovered debris consistent with a catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber and that bodies may not be recoverable. This is an incredibly unforgiving environment, he added. The search team will remain on the scene and are still working to develop the details for the timeline involved. OceanGates’ Titan vessel lost contact with tour operators on Sunday while it was about 435 miles south of St. John’s, Newfoundland, and 96-hour oxygen support is said to have run out on the vessel.
