Halton Police Bust Luxury Vehicle Fraud Ring in Project Luxe Operation

Halton Police Regional Fraud Unit successfully dismantled a sophisticated luxury vehicle fraud ring operating in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and southern Ontario. Under the codename Project Luxe, authorities launched an extensive investigation that led to multiple arrests and the recovery of over $1.6 million worth of high-end vehicles.

The investigation began in the summer of 2023 when the Regional Fraud Unit discovered a group impersonating representatives of a renowned luxury vehicle retailer. The group devised elaborate schemes to defraud multiple dealerships and acquire prestigious cars. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Halton Police initiated Project Luxe and took the lead in dismantling the highly organized group.

A collaborative effort ensued, involving local authorities, international cooperation, and assistance from multiple agencies such as Homeland Security, The New York and New Jersey Port Authority Police, the Toronto Police Service, OPP, and the FBI. The joint operation resulted in successful vehicle recoveries within Ontario and the United States, preventing the export of many intercepted vehicles destined overseas.

Among the recovered vehicles, estimated to be worth over $1.6 million, were luxurious models such as the 2023 Maybach GLS600, a 2020 Lamborghini Urus, a 2021 Ferrari F8 Spider, a 2023 Porsche 911 Turbo, a 2017 Mercedes E400, and a 2021 Dodge Durango.

In a decisive move in November 2023, search warrants were executed across various locations in the GTA. These raids led to the seizure of crucial evidence linking the accused to the alleged offenses. Among the seized items were equipment used to replicate security features for secure payment methods.

Enoch Johnson, a 40-year-old resident of Mississauga, faces charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000. Ahmad Amiri, a 29-year-old resident of Oakville, is charged with the same offense. Additionally, Issac Osunde Iyamu, a 27-year-old with no fixed address, faces five counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 and Fraud over $5000. The arrests serve as a strong message against fraudulent activities and highlight law enforcement’s commitment to protecting the public from criminal enterprises.

The success of ‘Project Luxe’ demonstrates the dedication and collaborative efforts of our regional and international partners working together to combat organized crime, said [insert name], spokesperson for the Halton Police Regional Fraud Unit.
