Indian automobile giant Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is looking to strengthen its position in the small commercial vehicle (SCV) market, specifically in the sub-2 tonne payload category, by launching its first dual-fuel vehicle in the segment. The Supro CNG Duo, which can also run on petrol, has been launched at an introductory price of INR 6.32 lakh and offers a payload capacity of 750 kg and a range of 325 km. It is equipped with a 20.01 kW engine that offers 60 Nm torque and fuel efficiency of 23.35 km/kg. Baneswar Banerjee, VP and National Sales, Head-Auto, Mahindra & Mahindra has expressed optimism around the use of CNG as a fuel in this segment and believes that the CNG market will grow due to reductions in fuel prices and the government’s push for CNG infrastructure across the country. Mahindra & Mahindra has already sold over 1.75 lakh units of the Supro in the market since 2016, and expects that the Supro CNG Duo will strengthen its position in the market. The company is also reportedly working on an electric version of the model.
