Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, announced on Sunday that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) is expanding, and his government is dedicated to providing improved amenities and infrastructure to accommodate this growth. During a civic event in Thane, Shinde inaugurated several civic projects and laid the groundwork for future ones.
Shinde emphasized the MMR’s development, stressing that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation was collaborating on projects such as the Milan Subway in Vile Parle and the under-construction Coastal Road. He added that the Mumbai government is devoted to providing essential amenities and infrastructure to sustain growth and improve the quality of life for people in the area.
With the advent of numerous infrastructure projects underway such as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, Mumbai trans-harbour link (MTHL), metro rail connectivity in Mumbai, and the Coastal Road projects, the city’s infrastructure is swiftly catching up with the increased demand.
With this in mind, the government has plans to further upgrade the MMR’s infrastructure to accommodate the region’s growth. Shinde laid the groundwork for several new projects during the Sunday event, including stormwater drains, sewage lines, and new roads, promising to provide better transportation networks and connectivity between different areas. The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has also been instructed to expedite the completion of pending infrastructure projects.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region is located in the west-central part of India and is one of the fastest-growing urban agglomerations in the world. It comprises many towns and cities in and around Mumbai and is responsible for the majority of the city’s economic development and growth.
Shinde stated that the Maharashtra Government would continue to strive to provide better amenities and infrastructure to benefit the people of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and support its growth.
