Officials at Mahanirvani Akhara in Uttarakhand, India, have warned that they will take action against those who fail to follow recently imposed dress code guidelines in three major temples. Secretary of Mahanirvani Akhara Shrimahant Ravindra Puri stated that women and girls are forbidden from wearing short clothing when visiting the temples, and posters with the new guidelines have been erected at various locations to ensure compliance. The dress code applies to the Daksh Prajapati Temple in Kankhal, Neelkanth Mahadev Temple in Pauri and Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple in Dehradun. Puri suggested that women and their families should visit the temples with at least 80% of their bodies covered. This stipulation has been in place at some temples in South India and Maharashtra for some time, he added.
