Gufi Paintal, the veteran actor who played the iconic role of ‘Shakuni Mama’ in the popular TV show, Mahabharat, passed away at the age of 79 in Mumbai. The news of his demise was confirmed by his nephew, Hiten Paintal. Gufi had been facing age-related health issues for some time.
Hiten shared that his uncle passed away peacefully in his sleep at around 9 am due to heart failure. He leaves behind his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchild. The last rites will be held today at around 4 pm at a crematorium in Andheri.
Gufi Paintal started his career in the Indian Army and was stationed on the China border during the Indo-Chinese War of 1962. He found his passion for acting then and would help organize Ramlila plays, where he played the character of Maa Sita. Gufi has acted in numerous TV shows and films, including CID, Bahadur Shah Zafar, and Om Namah Shivay.
Gufi Paintal’s debut movie was Rafoo Chakkar in 1975. He made a lasting impression on audiences with his portrayal of ‘Shakuni Mama’ in BR Chopra’s TV adaptation of the epic Mahabharat. Gufi will be fondly remembered for his contribution to the Indian entertainment industry and his memorable roles.
