A woman from Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, has accused a Muslim man from Bengaluru of sexually exploiting her. Following her complaint, the police have registered a case against the alleged perpetrator Omar Farooq. Mishra also took a swipe at the Congress party, which is in power in Karnataka, blaming them for allowing ‘love jihad’ to flourish, saying that they were ignoring the issue. After the incident went public, he went on to appeal to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi to take action against Farooq and assist the police in his capture.
The woman lodged the complaint in Damoh, after which a police team from Madhya Pradesh left for Bengaluru immediately to investigate the case further. The notion of ‘love jihad’ has sparked controversy across India, with several politicians and citizens alleging that it is a real phenomenon.
